The area

Kardamyli and Stoupa two villages in the Mani nestled between the blue waters of the Messinian Gulf and the Taÿgetos Mountain creating one of the prettiest settings in the Peloponnese. Sea kayaking in Kardamyli and Stoupa is indeed one of our most popular trips offering an inch by inch exploration of the rich in imagery and diversity, lacy coastline of the Mani. We paddle in warm crystal-clear waters, exploring hidden coves and impressive rock formations. We visit sea caves and discover idyllic beaches sprouted between the fishing villages of the region.

The activity

Our trip starts from Kardamyli’s old harbor, the place we meet. Before departure, we brief you on trip details, kayak paddling techniques and safety measures. Soon we get into our kayaks and begin a coastal exploration at a relaxed paddling pace. Each little cove hides a special surprise such as hidden sea caves, rock gardens, cliffs with spectacular formation, hidden sandy and pebble beaches. One of the top attractions of this trip is a visit to the Blue Cave. A spectacular natural phenomenon where sunlight passing through a crack in the cave reflects on the sea floor and bathes the entire cave in aquamarine light. A swim into the cave is a must do and a lifetime experience. Weather and time permitting we may head to Stoupa for a stop at the beach of Kalogria with its fine golden sand and turquoise waters. Halfway we make a relaxing stop for swimming, snorkeling and a picnic a picnic with freshly baked bread organic, garden-grown fruits and vegetables, homemade olive oil, and cheese. Once the lunch stop is over we paddle back to the starting point to end an adventurous day spent in the coastline of the Mani.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS   Do I need sea kayaking experience? No, most of our customers are first timers. Sea kayaking is easy to pick up and beginners can complete a decent journey on their first time in a sea kayak. All of our trips are about journeying. We paddle at relaxed pace, we learn on the move and enjoy the freedom that sea kayaking offers. If you are a group of experienced paddlers wanting to complete a demanding journey or benefit from individualized coaching then a private trip would be a suitable option.   Is a Sea Kayaking trip suitable for families with kids? Absolutely Yes ! Sea kayaking is a wonderful way for your child to explore the outdoors. There are so many reasons to love sea kayaking with kids. Watching them gain confidence on the water, giving them the chance to see places from a different perspective, teaching them about marine conservation and the environment. Kids just love it. What is the minimum age for a kid to join a Sea Kayaking trip Kids from 5 to 12 may join a regular trip as a subgroup of a standard group trip and a private guide will be provided for extra care and better enjoyment of the trip. We always put kids in double kayaks with one parent and stay with them at all times. If your kids are over 13 sporty and confident then they may be able to paddle their own sea kayaks.   What kind of fitness level do I need to take part? Sea kayaking is similar in intensity to walking. It is an easy aerobic exercise, occasionally turning into moderate, involving lots of different muscle groups but mainly the muscles of the torso and upper body. Keep in mind that the most important thing is to have fun and to enjoy the journey. We'll take plenty of breaks and paddle at an achievable pace.   What size of group? Up to 12 people on our standard group trips. Most of our groups are consisted of couples, families and individuals. We can also cater private trips.   What day trip is suitable for me, how do I choose? All of our trips are designed to be suitable for everybody. Each one has its own unique characteristics. Best way to choose a trip among others is to check which one departs closer from the place you are staying.   Should I book a standard trip or a private trip? If you are a beginner or don't want to spend as much money and are happy paddling in a mixed group then booking a standard group trip is the best way to go. You'll get to share the experience with others in a small group and due to the fact that it is a group trip rates are more economical. Private trips really work best with groups of experienced kayakers or groups of friends who want to do something a bit different, would like to do a more advanced journey or just want to have the trip to themselves.   Is lunch provided? Yes indeed, Simple, nutritious and flavorsome, the food is one of the pleasures during our trips. Halfway we make a relaxing stop at a beach to taste a picnic with freshly baked bread, organic garden-grown fruits and vegetables, homemade olive oil, and cheese.   What route will we take? We usually perform our tours within a certain route aiming to visit the most beautiful spots each trip has to offer however, your guide is likely to choose an alternative route that suits the conditions on the day and the experience and needs of the group. This is the safest and best way to operate sea kayak trips.   Will I learn sea kayak skills? Although our trips are primarily about guided experiences, you will also learn entry level paddling techniques as part of the journey. A lot of learning about sea kayaking comes from experience and is best done as individuals on the move and in context. You will be free to spend a few moments practicing skills and techniques during the break however, if you want to learn more skills and benefit from individualized coaching then a private trip would be a suitable option.   What is the weather like? Greece has a Mediterranean climate and one of the sunniest climates worldwide. Weather along the coasts is warm from April to October. The wind speed and sea state are the primary factors that affect whether we will run the trip. If the conditions are dangerous then we will cancel and you won't be charged, we can try and re-schedule if possible. You should note that it is very rare that we have to cancel trips.
